The NJIPLA has four classes of membership: CORPORATE, FIRM, STUDENT, and LIFE.
The CORPORATE membership consists of: (a) members of a corporate law department or is employed by a company as its legal counsel, and whose residence or corporate office is established in the Third Circuit or in the District of New Jersey (b) Individuals who are full-time professional employees of a government agency, or (c) Individuals who are full time professors in a law school approved by the Association of American Law Schools (AALS).
The FIRM membership consists of: (a) attorneys and agents registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, or (b) members of the Bar of any State or of the District of Colombia who are actively and professionally engaged either in patent, trademark or copyright practice or in the trial of patent, trademark or copyright causes.
The STUDENT membership consists of those who are currently attending a recognized law school and have an interest in patent, trademark or copyright law. No person may be a STUDENT member for more than five (5) years. STUDENT members may not vote or hold office, but otherwise enjoy all other privileges of membership. There is no yearly fee for STUDENT members.
The LIFE membership is limited to those current active members meeting certain requirements concerning retirement from active practice, minimum age level and minimum number of years of active membership. There is no yearly fee for LIFE members.
Applicants for ACTIVE or STUDENT membership must fill out the application form.
All applicants under Paragraph 2, subparagraph (b) must also provide information supporting their application giving full details of their background and qualifications under that paragraph to enable the Board of Managers to pass upon the application. This information may be submitted in the CV section of the online application.
